i-Motor Communications

All i-Motors communicate using the ASCII protocol over either RS232 or RS485. On each i-Motor, there is only one RS232 port, accessible from two different connectors on the i-Motor. Each i-Motor also has one RS485 port, which takes to points of I/O from the i-Motor. General connection diagrams are below.


i-Motor RS232 Wiring Diagram

TX is pin 3 on the Power Connector or pin 10 on the 15 Pin I/O connector.
RX is pin 4 on the Power Connector or pin 11 on the 15 Pin I/O connector.
GND is pin 5 on the Power Connector or pin 13 on the 15 Pin I/O connector.

TX is pin 3 on the Power Connector or pin 10 on the 15 Pin I/O connector.
RX is pin 4 on the Power Connector or pin 11 on the 15 Pin I/O connector.
GND is pin 5 on the Power Connector or pin 13 on the 15 Pin I/O connector.


i-Motor RS485 Wiring Diagram

Port E is pin 5 on the 15 Pin I/O connector.
Port F is pin 6 on the 15 Pin I/O connector.
Port GND is pin 13 on the 15 Pin I/O connector.


RS232 Daisychain must have ECHO set and the maximum number of units in one chain is 100. RS485 multidrop requires ECHO_OFF1 to be set and a maximum of 32 units can be in one multidrop; this is set by the RS485 protocol.
The delimiting character for ending RS232 or RS485 transmissions is a carriage return.
