Can the APEX 20/40 Operate on 120VAC Input Power?

It is possible to supply 120VAC single phase input voltage to the APEX 20 and APEX 40 servo drives, as 120VAC falls withn the 83-252 voltage range for all APEX products. However, keep in mind that since the APEX 20 and APEX 40 are designed to run on 240VAC, a decrease in motor speed perormance will result when less than 202VAC is supplied. A significant decrease in performance will occur as a result of operating an APEX 20 or APEX 40 drive at 120VAC, as the knee of the speed/torque curve will occur at approximately one half the rated speed that is normally specified for APEX drives running at 240VAC.

To configure the APEX 20 and APEX 40 for 120V single phase power, make the following connections when wiring up single phase input power:

  • Jumper the L1 pin to the Control L1 pin on the APEX drive, then connect the AC Line input wire from the 120V source to the L1 pin on the APEX.

  • Jumper the L2 pin to the Control L2 pin on the APEX drive, then connect the AC Neutral input wire from the 120V source to the L2 pin on the APEX.

  • Connect the 120V (earth) AC ground wire to the EARTH pin on the APEX drive.
