Why can't Scan for Devices find my PAC?

Users of the PAC may notice that the Scan for Devices feature does not always manage to find a PAC on the network even if the user can ping it. The most common cause of this problem is incorrect subnet mask configuration. PAM will only find PACs with subnet masks of 255.255.0.0 and only if the user's PC also has a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0. An example of this issue is shown below.

Steps to fix the issue are given below.

  1. Navigate to PAC Configuration Tool (PCT). You can do this in Internet Explorer by typing the PAC's IP address into your URL bar followed by :81.

    Example:
    http://192.168.10.50:81/
    This is the default location of PCT. It will be different if you have changed your PAC's IP address. For more information, see page 39 of the PAC User Guide.
    Log in to PCT. The default username is Admin with no password.

  2. Change the PAC's IP address. Under the Network Settings tab, you can set your PAC's IP address and subnet mask. You must set the subnet mask to 255.255.0.0. The IP address can be set to a desired address as long as it is in the same subnet as your PC. If in doubt, use 192.168.10.50 (the default). Click Save and click Yes if prompted to reboot the PAC.

  3. Open Control Panel. Go to Network and Sharing Center. Click the Local Area Connection link to configure your LAN adapter (note that your Ethernet port must be connected to do this).

  4. Click Properties.

  5. Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Then click Properties.

  6. Select Use the following IP address. Then, set your subnet mask to 255.255.0.0. Your IP address may be set to any value in the same subnet as your PAC. If in doubt, use the IP address depicted.

  7. Click OK on all dialog screens. The Scan function in PAM should now work properly.
